Social enterprise

Our Social Enterprise Initiative works to make our people collectively stronger by redefining and building community wealth - we do this by building a regenerative economy grounded in Lakota knowledge and values, and by making education and entrepreneurial opportunities more accessible to the Pine Ridge Reservation.

Our goals include ensuring that the community enjoys economic inclusion by enabling broad ownership of businesses as well as business development. We also work to increase experience, skills and knowledge in our community that is centered in healing, emotional intelligence and our Lakol wicho’an,

Currently, the Social Enterprise team provides technical assistance to the three start-up companies launched by Thunder Valley by helping them with their formation documents, state and tax filings, policies and procedures development, business plans and resource gathering.

One of our top priorities is to develop the programs, services, and curriculum for our Wičhóthi Káǧa Business Start-up and Development Center that will assist community members in learning a decolonized approach to economic development; such as sharing resources, bartering and communal ownership. Our services include: business modeling, planning, bookkeeping and marketing.
