REGIONAL EQUITY
Thunder Valley has led the movement for creating equity on the Pine Ridge Reservation through work engaging community members, non-profit leaders, political leaders, philanthropy and federal partners. Regional Equity creates and implements a regional vision that helps build capacity, addresses systemic poverty and eliminates disparities for the Pine Ridge Reservation.
In 2012, we facilitated Reservation-wide community engagement sessions which helped determine 12 priority areas for our people, outlined in the Oyate Omniciye (Oglala Lakota Regional Plan) that was adopted by the Oglala Sioux Tribe as its first-ever strategic document for the Tribe. This Regional Plan allows us to have greater collective impact and clearer strategies for the future.
Pine Ridge was designated as a Promise Zone by the Obama Administration in 2015 with TVCDC as the Coordinating Agency. We are currently developing an information management system for partners to collaborate on the Pine Ridge Promise Zone. Additionally, our team is identifying internal and external policy priorities and subsequent bodies of work, while also working to create culture shifts from dependency and poverty to self-determination and liberation across our communities.
