The earth is currently experiencing some of the most rapid climate change in the history of humanity. The ice caps are melting at a rate that increases every year. There is abundant evidence of human-induced climate change, and the statistics are frightening. In the past 200 years, the quantity of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has grown by almost one-third, more than in the past 20 million years. The earth’s snow cover has decreased by 10% since the late 1960s. And since the 1990s the thickness of the arctic sea ice from late summer to early autumn has decreased by 40%. As a result of ice melts, the sea level is on the rise.
Climate change is a result of an unsustainable energy industry powered by coal and oil. Coal and oil are damaging the environment, thereby threatening the lives of our children. If we want to ensure a better future for our children, we must move to sustainable and efficient energy solutions. Our renewable energy program is designed to do exactly that.
To ensure a better future for our children and the earth, we will educate our community about the environment. We plan to use renewable technologies such as wind and solar energy to make the Thunder Valley Community House self-sustaining, and in the building of our Wellness Center. We are currently developing a plan to buy some solar panels and a small scale wind turbine to sustain the Thunder Valley Community House. We believe that we have a responsibility to work toward building a sustainable community that is environmentally friendly and self-sufficient.
