Sustainable Home Ownership Project

Sustainable Home Ownership Project (SHOP) is a collaboration of organizations on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation that have come together to create a more efficient process towards homeownership.

The mission of the collaborative is to: empower families on the Pine Ridge Reservation through a streamlined homeownership system that stimulates asset building, economic development, and community wealth.

SHOP partners recognize that each of our organizations focuses on at least one aspect of the homeownership process.  These steps include outreach, education, intake, preparation (including IDA’s), homeownership financing applications, addressing land issues, providing infrastructure, financing, identifying a home for purchase, and closing on a loan.

To create a more seamless strategy to homeownership our organizations are working together to create a system in which families can be guided in the process until they successfully own a home.  By working collaboratively, we increase our collective capacity and are able to learn from other partners. SHOP has a focus on homeownership education, as it is an essential aspect of successfully owning a home and sustaining that home over time.  We realize that homeownership is a major asset, which can be leveraged to access other resources for the community.  By creating a unified system between all partners, we can ensure that no family will get lost on the path to homeownership.
