Peter Hill was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, but has been living and working on the Pine Ridge Reservation for over 15 years. He became fluent in Lakota during his years on the reservation, and over time became part of the movement to preserve and revitalize the language. In 2012, he started the Lakota Immersion Childcare program, then a simple in-home daycare with five children and only one staff member. He continues to work for the program - now the Lakota Language Initiative of Thunder Valley CDC - as its Language Coordinator. When he is not helping teach the children at the daycare, he spends most of his working hours making translations, recording audio material, creating curriculum, and working with the adult second-language learners on staff.
